Renaissance Music Week

July 11-15 (with faculty welcome concert picnic July 10)

Discover the joys of Renaissance ensemble music on the recorder or viola da gamba – plus historical fencing and dancing of the era! In relaxed small-group classes with friendly, experienced teachers, we'll play beautiful consorts and irresistible dance tunes. This music from the time of William Shakespeare and Galileo Galilei, though new to most music students today, is instantly engaging and fun.

Who can participate

Please be fully vaccinated per age-group availability. This class is for music students age 10-14 who can choose one of these classes:

  • Recorder classes: You have been taking recorder lessons for at least one year, OR you have taken recorder at school and you read music notation, OR you read music on another band instrument and would like to add recorder as a second instrument. Students in the second and third groups will receive some orientation lessons in advance of the camp.
  • Discover the viola da gamba: You play an instrument and read music notation, but are new to the viola da gamba.
