All our programs are designed to let young people enjoy each other's company in small groups, connect socially around shared curiosity, and gain a unique perspective on their individual strengths and personalities. Guest appearances by Maître d'Armes Cecil Longino have been a favorite part of many SHAK camps for more than a decade. Now we have special classes with this instructor devoted entirely to historical fencing, discovering both the thrill of action and the dignity of etiquette and posture that are encoded in this noble art.
Six Thursdays: April 25 through May 30
Location: Phinney Neighborhood Center (6532 Phinney Ave N, Seattle), Room 5 upstairs in the BLUE building (April 25 class is across the hall in Room 7)
Now with TWO separate classes in Classical French Foil Fencing:
FULL: Ages 7-11: 4:30-5:25
This foray into classical fencing is designed for younger and/or less experienced fencers, and is open to both new and continuing students in this age range. Please wear comfortable long-sleeved shirts and pants, with closed-toe shoes. Equipment is provided by the instructor. Students who are 11 can choose either section.
ONE space left: Ages 11-14: 5:30-6:30
This class in 18th-century fencing is appropriate for older fencers (and occasionally younger returning students, with instructor's approval). All participants will develop the elegant foundations of French fencing, and returning students will delve into more complex fencing actions. We will focus on 18th-century French fencing with foils, including Please wear comfortable long-sleeved shirts and pants, with closed-toe shoes. Equipment will be provided by the instructor. Students who are 11 can choose either section.
FEES
All of SHAK's programs operate on a sliding-fee basis. We know that everyone benefits when our classes are accessible, diverse, and welcoming!
Above median income/assets: We suggest $210-260 per 6-class series, which covers about 80-100% of the cost per student
Near median income/assets: We suggest $140-190 per 6-class series, which covers about 50% of the cost per student
Below median income/assets: Pay whatever you can. We do have full scholarships. No one turned away for inability to pay.
