EMYA Baroque Seattle Send-Off Concert!
Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, 10005 32nd Ave NE, Seattle WA 98125
Hear early music's next generation! SHAK is returning to the Berkeley Festival of Early Music for the first time since 2018, when our adaptation of Handel's opera Serse on the festival mainstage brought the house down. This year we're presenting our youth Baroque string orchestra, the Early Music Youth Academy. Hear the students in Seattle to send them off with the support of our community!
On violins, cello, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, skilled students ages 10-18 bring the ardor of youth to a richly detailed and uplifting HP Baroque program including Georg Muffat's heart-melting chaconne, Vivaldi's exhilarating D minor concerto for two violins and cello, and the original strings version of Bach's D major orchestral suite. Enjoy also Corelli's beloved concerto grosso #4, Purcell's sumptuous Three Parts Upon a Ground, and another ciaccona — the irresistibly sprightly one by Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco! Local recorder students join for a movement of the Heinichen multi-recorder concerto and a concluding tutti set of Handel dances that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
Direction by Shulamit Kleinerman, Eleanor Legault (violin), and Nick Chrisman (cello, SHAK '21), with guest artists Byron Schenkman (harpsichord) and Vicki Boeckman (recorder).
The program lasts about an hour. The venue is ADA accessible with street parking and a parking lot. There is no admission charge, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted and contribute to SHAK’s ongoing programming.
