Join Seattle Historical Arts for Kids for this truly enchanting youth-theater double bill! Kids aged 7-15 bring all the best parts of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life with Shakespeare’s words and a selection of songs from the Bard’s own time, accompanied by a consort of professional musicians and skilled teens on period instruments. After intermission, SHAK’s high school solo singers take the stage with John Frederick Lampe’s elegant yet hilarious 1745 comic-operatic retelling of one of the play’s most beloved scenes. The fully-sung Pyramus and Thisbe opera is accompanied in Baroque splendor by a chamber orchestra of top Seattle early-instrument specialists.

The overall run time is about 90 minutes with intermission. With eye-catching period costumes and fine music, this performance is suitable for everyone from young children to grownup fans of historical performance. Teen players on violas da gamba and violin join Ingrid Matthews and Shulamit Kleinerman (violins), Caroline Nicolas (cello), John Lenti (lute and theorbo), and Vicki Boeckman (recorders).

Suggested donation: $5-10 children / $10-20 adults, online in advance or cash/check at the door. Pay as able.
