Explore instrumental chamber music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras in this friendly, small-scale summer workshop. Intermediate instrumentalists aged 9-15 who read music will play compelling, fun, little-known pieces from the 13th-18th centuries, with special focus on the delights of Renaissance consorts and dance tunes. Early music offers the chance to be heard as an individual contributor in small ensembles, to discover improvisation techniques of the pre-classical eras, and to be empowered as a preserver of some beautiful and too-often-neglected music!
Students of bowed strings, harp, and wind instruments are welcome. Players should be able to play comfortably in keys with at least one flat or one sharp. Some of our music will be given out to learn in advance; students should have a private teacher who's willing to help with this if needed.
Our group has room for a minimum of four students and a maximum of seven. The workshop is taught by award-winning SHAK founder-director Shulamit Kleinerman.
SCHEDULE: Monday & Friday 9:30-12:30; Tues-Thurs 9:30-2:30. A casual performance for families takes place at noon on Friday. Early drop-off and/or late pickups (including Monday afternoon) can be arranged; inquire for details.
