Hands-on skills for your off-screen time!
Online performance programs
Current performance programs are small by-invitation projects. If you're a returning student who'd like to be part of video-from-home projects, let us know! If you're new to SHAK, we recommend starting with one of our winter learning programs in dance, song, or calligraphy. (See the Enroll button for links to upcoming Introductory and Series classes.)
Performance programs are offered on a flexible pay-as-able model. Coaching sessions are on Zoom. Students' individual performances are recorded at home on a smartphone and combined into beautiful souvenirs of this period in your student's life.*
Register in advance at the bottom of the page. Space is limited to ten (or sometimes fewer) participants in each program.
For information all of about SHAK's online learning and performing programs, visit our Enroll page and join our mailing list.
*Note about permissions: You must give permission for your child's video to be shared in our final project. However, if you prefer to keep your child's face out of the video, this is probably possible with a little creative thinking. Please be sure to indicate this need when you register and when you meet the project director.
Famous Monologues from Shakespeare
THIS PROGRAM HAS PASSED
Mondays Aug 10, 17, 24, 11am-12pm, plus Thurs Aug 13, 2pm-3pm, Pacific
This project is for: Students age 10-15, with or without theatrical experience (age 8-9 may be able to participate; please inquire)
The most thrilling thing that comes down to us from the Elizabethan theater is the monologue, beloved by literature fans of all ages for four centuries. Longtime SHAK stage director Carmen Mettler convenes this group and helps each young speaker bring Shakespeare’s words to life onscreen, with vocal expression, physical gesture, and the use of space. We’ll have fun making the most of the Zoom medium in class, and students will stage and video their monologues at home to be shared in a final project. Even though we can’t be together onstage right now, we can inspire you with these electrifying lines of poetry and connect you with an audience near and far!
Class size: 6-10 students
Suggested donation: $30-$90; no one turned away for lack of funds. Register below.
