It's a mini-concert, a singalong, and a dance party for all ages, in one! Student participants in the Early Music Youth Academy demonstrate our autumn's material, and the audience gets to join the fun with a singalong and a few dances to learn. This is a great way to meet the people of SHAK and find out what early music for youth is all about.
Our autumn repertoire focuses on consort music of the Renaissance from Heinrich Isaac, Ludwig Senfl, Joan Ambrosio Dalza, the Cancionerio de Palacio, and other sources. Seven students aged 10-12 play violins, viola da gamba, and harp, with guest accompaniment on bass viol by Chris Briden (bass viol) and Bill McJohn (harp) and vocal solos by SHAK teen veterans Emma Chrisman and Phoebe Farrell-Sherman. Jamia Hansen-Murray teaches Renaissance dances to the audience.
Expect about a thirty-minute music presentation and another thirty minutes of participatory dance.
TWO IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
If you haven't been to the Salle before, be sure to consult the map. The Salle is located on a block of NE 112th St that can be accessed ONLY from Roosevelt Way.
Parking is on-street; expect that you may need to park a block or two away.
So that we have room to dance, there is no seating at the Salle. Feel free to bring a folding chair or camp stool if you're not comfortable standing or sitting on the floor for 30-40 minutes.
