SHAK’s Early Music Youth Academy presents: Early Music from the Gaelic Lands

Join the Early Music Youth Academy for a trip to 16th- and 17th-century Ireland and Scotland! Before the great tune collections that began to be published in the 18th century, we can find evocative traces of an even older tradition -- tunes copied down by hand in manuscripts, or hinted at by composers for the theaters of London imitating a popular foreign style. The Early Music Youth Academy, an ensemble of skilled musicians in the middle and high school grades, breathes new life into these half-lost tunes with the sounds of the instruments of the period, including harp, violin, and viola da gamba. Directed by Shulamit Kleinerman from the Renaissance violin, this ensemble is a program of Seattle Historical Arts for Kids.

All ages are welcome at this one-hour concert. Join us for tea and cookies afterward!

Suggested free-will donation: $10-15 online in advance or cash/check at the door. Pay as able.
